No matter what stage you are at in life, a fee-only financial planner can be a huge resource to you when it comes to finding the best course of action to aid you in achieving your personal and financial goals. In this series, we are going to look at unique phases of life that individuals may go through and discuss some of the ways we help bring value to their lives.

The first life stage is when you are just getting started; you have a job, are starting to accumulate, and need to get organized and develop a clear path for your future. Like we always say, it’s never too early to start planning for retirement! The following lists various ways that we as financial advisors help those who are just starting out.

Having recently finished school, you may have some student debt that you just want to go away. We will develop strategies for debt reduction and continue to monitor it as time goes on. In addition to debt reduction, we will look at your cash flow and see if there are ways to optimize how you are using your money. In other words, we help you develop an attainable budget!

One of our favorite things to do is discuss your personal and financial goals in life. We review and prioritize what is important to you and then start coming up with a plan of attack for achieving them. Probably the most important action at this point in life is identifying what your savings shortfall is. We look to see if your emergency fund is adequate and how much you are contributing to your retirement plans.

You may have employee benefits through work which we will review and make sure you are taking advantage of the correct offerings for insurances. In addition, we help you determine your investment allocation for your retirement plans based on your risk tolerance.

As time goes on, we help you stay on track with your plan and as life changes, we make changes to your plan if needed. Change is inevitable, and we know that! We are here to help you in times of transition and aid you in finding the most beneficial course to achieve your goals.

Keep an eye out next week for our series on what a financial advisor does for individuals when they get married. If you have any questions about how we can help during your phase of life, please reach out to us! This information is not intended to be a substitute for specific individualized advice, and we suggest you discuss your specific situation with a qualified financial advisor.
